Black Veil Brides Frontman Andy Biersack To Re-Join Band For Tour Dates

Black Veil Brides’ lead singer, Andy Biersack, will reunite with the rest of his band on the July 1 date of the Vans Warped Tour in Pomona, CA. After fracturing three ribs while falling from a balcony at the Brides’ June 18 show at Hollywood and Highland in Los Angeles, Biersack was forced to stay behind while his bandmates continued on the Warped Tour holding daily meet and greets with fans until his return. Tomorrow will mark the band’s first performance on the tour in support of their recently released major label debut, Set the World on Fire, on Lava/Universal Republic.

“I am really excited to get back out on the road,” Biersack says. “This is the Black Veil Brides’ first time on Warped Tour and we are honored to be a part of it. To all the fans that went to the first few dates already, all I can say is I am sorry I missed the first week of shows, but promise to kick ass for the rest of the tour.”

The group is featured in the July/August issue of Revolver (available here now, and everywhere on July 5) and it bagged the Best New Band award at the 2011 Revolver Golden Gods.

Also, don’t forget to enter to win a Black Veil Brides prize pack here.

Black Veil Brides - Set The World On Fire (another interview)

I will just come out and say that yes, I’m a fan of the Black Veil Brides. I’m also not under the age of 18. While it does appear that the majority of their fans are underage, I’m not one of them. That being said, like the majority of their fans, I also had been looking forward to the release of BVB’s major label debut, Set the World on Fire, and I was not disappointed at all.
This album, while each and every song could easily stand on its own, takes listeners on a musical journey that continues the themes begun on BVB’s previous album, We Stitch These Wounds. Whereas WSTW was angry, this next chapter of the journey is encouraging and hopeful. The album’s sound is more refined, which of course comes with experience, as well as having producer Josh Abraham (30 Seconds to Mars, Slayer, Atreyu) on board, but it is not so far off from where the band was before that fans would wonder what happened to them.
As you listen throughout the album, you realize that this collection of songs could easily be the soundtrack of the lives of BVB fans, affectionately referred to by the band as the “BVB Army”. The album begins with "New Religion" - a call to arms for the "outcasts" as they were called on WSTW. Singer Andy Biersack is the Pied Piper of modern times as he brings the BVB Army forward with lyrics such as "Come now and imagine with me, Taking back a world that once was ours, Let's regain the power, and then we will end what we've begun".
Some may comment that Biersack doesn’t scream or growl as much on this album but he still does so where the song warrants it. And seriously, when did metal rock music start sounding like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street? Personally I’m happy that those sounds are now limited, and the focus is on showcasing Biersack’s surprisingly wide vocal range. These songs are big and anthemic - complete with call and response sections, as heard on “Fallen Angels”. One could easily visualize them being played in a large arena.
What else complements playing in large arenas? Guitar solos. And, this album doesn’t skimp on the solos. From the opening chords of “Love Isn’t Always Fair” through the last notes of “The Legacy”, lead guitarist, Jake Pitts shows us that he’s destined for the history books. Add to that the dueling guitar of Jinxx who also shows his skills with the violin on "Saviour" and you have a duo that are a force with which to be reckoned.
The album does still have a softer side and that is especially seen with one of my favorites, “Saviour”. This song is very emotional and with its lyrics, “Because of who you are, I will take this burden on and become the holy one”, Andy accepts the position he has placed himself into within the BVB Army. Would the critics be more accepting of this band if this song was being sung by a 30-something to his child? These lyrics could easily be taken that way but instead, we have a 20 year-old in makeup/war paint singing those words. Maybe this is why the fan base is so young; instead of singing about sex, drugs, and alcohol, here is a band singing about standing up for yourself and not letting those around you dictate who and what you should be. These are themes that the younger generation can easily relate to as they are still trying to find themselves. And in Biersack, they see someone not much older than them helping them along the way.
Take the songs for what they are and look beyond what is right in front of you. If it is the image that is your deterrent, don’t let it be. Take a music history lesson and see what was said early on about bands such as KISS and Motley Crue and look at them now. You might want to jump on this journey now with the Black Veil Brides before the warpaint dries

Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides injures ribs

According to his Twitter, Andy Biersack, frontman of Black Veil Brides, has shattered three ribs on his left side, allegedly from jumping off the balcony at a show. He fell from a 15 foot wall and smashed his ribs on a railing, but decided to go on with the performance anyway.

The injury happened during Black Veil Brides' show at Hollywood and Highland last night (June 18).

Read some tweets from Andy and Matt Good (guitarist of D.R.U.G.S.) about the situation below.

@AndyBVB:
Thank you Hollywood for singing with me...jumped from the balcony and broke my rib...heading to the hospital...you rule. I'll be back soon.
Shattered 3 ribs on my left side. I will keep everyone updated when I know more..4 now I'm resting so I can get back to rockin onstage asap

@MattG00D:
Spent 7 hours in the hospital last night with @AndyBVB and now we are relaxing and getting him back to 100% slow and steady
We'll be sure to update you with more information as the situation develops. Be sure to keep Andy in your thoughts and wish him a safe recovery!

[Update: Several videos featuring footage of the fall have surfaced on YouTube, including the one below; skip forward to just before the 2:00 mark. Make sure your speakers are off, though, as the sound is unintelligible.]

Exclusive Interview: Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides discusses his fall, injuries

Sometimes, things don’t work out the way you planned. Just ask Black Veil Brides vocalist Andy Biersack, who shattered three ribs while attempting to jump from one pillar to another during the band’s album release show on Saturday, June 18, at the Hollywood & Highland Center Hot Topic in Los Angeles. Even though Biersack’s injury occurred only three songs into their set, he managed to play the remainder of the show before he was rushed off to hospital, where he learned the extent of the damage. The incident itself was inevitably witnessed—in all its graceless, bone-crunching detail—all around the world via YouTube.

Biersack is now recuperating in a rented West Hollywood apartment with his mother and friends for company. Although heavily medicated, he is upbeat and philosophical about the incident, and he is typically determined to go on with the show as soon as humanly possible.
Interview: Dan Slessor

What were you actually trying to do?
Really, I was trying to fly—and I’ve clearly not perfected that yet. No, I wish I had some great story for why I was doing what I was, but I was doing my usual thing where I climb up and then jump back onstage, which usually ends badly—though not this badly. The thing was, I was wearing cowboy boots on a slick, hard, marble surface, which I’d never jumped from before. I started to slip a bit while I was up there, and I sort of sat down thinking that I could push with my arms, and land on the adjacent pillar—and everything sort of worked according to plan, except for the fact my legs fell immediately and just slammed my ribs into the pillar.

What was going through your head at that moment?
The only thing I had in mind was, “Ah, shit,” because I knew once I pushed, it clearly was not enough velocity, and I was headed for the ground. More than anything, once I was able to regain a bit of consciousness, I just felt so stupid, because I knew we were only three songs into the set. If I dared to end the show there that would just be the biggest slap in the face to the fans who showed up and wanted to hear some new songs, and I didn’t want to make them miss out basically because of me making a stupid decision, so I just got on and finished up the set.

What is the diagnosis?
I’ve currently got three shattered ribs, most of which are sort of like bone shrapnel in my back area. I’m pretty heavily medicated right now, and I can’t really feel my extremities, because if I move too often I run the risk of those pieces of bone shifting and stabbing me, and sort of causing internal bleeding—and there’s also one very near my lung, that could potentially collapse it. I have to wait for these bones to fuse before I can really move too often. But this is a double-edged sword, because if I don’t move often enough, the excess bone will kind of sit there and cause blood clots inside me, so I have to at least get up and try to walk several times a day.

Have you seen the YouTube videos of your plummet?
Oh yeah, my band and road crew left for Warped Tour yesterday; they’re going to hang out there, and hopefully I can join them soon. But they stopped by and were teasing me and showing them all to me. There’s one in particular I thought was interesting, which is the montage someone’s made using all the different camera angles. There’s like sad music over the top that kind of implies I died. The thing is, I know what I did was dumb, and now I have to pay the price—and unfortunately, that means missing the first week or so of Warped, which is not good. But I can either lay here in misery and kinda hate everything, or I can understand what my plight is, take my medication and do what I can to heal.

Since it’s going to take a while to fully heal, will the injury affect the way you perform?
Certainly. The doctors have all told me that basically it’ll take me the entire span of Warped Tour to heal, so if I go back and play on Warped, it’s going to be too soon. To me, it’s all about whether I feel physically up to it. I’m not going to go out and do it if I feel like I can’t move, because I don’t want to ruin my body permanently so I can never perform again. But if I feel like I can go onstage and competently play, then I’m going to do it. I know I’m not going to be able to perform to the best of my abilities, but I feel like the fans at least deserve to see the show in some capacity.

And next time, when you’re contemplating some great leap, will you take an extra moment or two to think about it first?
I don’t think so. I’d like to say that I would, but that wouldn’t really be me.

Andy goes to hospital again, but this time in a serious condition!

Today 06/18/11  Andy Biersack, injures self after a seemingly unintelligent jump. .
He got back up afterwards, took it like a man, resumed singing after injury, blood dripping down his lip, and stated to crowd that he thinks he has a few broken ribs but even though he's in a lot of pain, his fans make it feel better. :)

Most people would be sad to see Andy get hurt, but it shouldn't be entirely ignored or disliked due to the fact that he gets back up and pulls through with his performances, which is all in all something worth liking, not disliking.
(He still played 3 more songs after this)

Andy, we're all hoping for improvement, we know you love your fans, the more the next time do not do crazy things that can get you in serious condition

LOL

Andy: For some reason, I decided to hang on the - like the scaffolding on the top of the uh, on the roof of the building. And, what I didn’t realize, is that the kids could also climb a little bit. And over the course of the like, the next thirty seconds my pants were taken off.. And, uh as well as my boots and my boxers were removed. Um, and uh and then I had to swing back like uh, like a.. like a monkey back on stage. And my uh, tour manager standing over there, John, had to take naked Andy back. And you know, unfortunately the audience got a shot of my butt. Which was, you know, it’s not.. whatever. It was there. And uh, yeah. That was kinda embarrassing. Um.. mainly because of the butt.

Jinxx talks about the name "Black Veil Brides"

Black Veil Brides is an idea of when Andy was a teenager. The name refers to a rite ofpassage for nuns, when they enter the Catholic Church. They are getting married in church and giving their lives for the church. At the ceremony, they wear a black veil. It also symbolizes the desire and the passion we have. We are giving everything for this band to follow our dreams.

Music: Rock on the Range 2011 Day 1

Black Veil Brides:

Aside from maybe one song, I'd never really heard of Black Veil Brides prior to this show. At first glance, their personal appearances were highly influenced by glam band Kiss. With a flare for the dramatic, Black Veil Brides put on one hell of a set and definitely top five for the day.

Vocalist Andy Biersack managed to keep the crowd involved for the entire set while guitarists Jinxx and Jake Pitts were frantically running from side to side making sure the crowd was singing along.

On CD, I've never really been a fan of the band but with their on-stage personas and level of enthusiasm it's hard not to like this band live. As stated, they were definitely one of my top bands of the day.
